Busy Busy Busy

Are you ready for the coming weekend? It's gonna be a busy weekend for dressage enthusiasts in Eastern Nebraska.

Saturday, the 18th Colby Creek is hosting it's inaugural Dressage show in Ithica Nebraska. This is a busy month for Tara and Colby Creek! Last weekend they hosted a NHJSSC Hunter/Jumper show!

Saturday and Sunday there will be an Alison Sader-Larson Clinic hosted by Heidi Basler and held at both Pine Ridge Stables (morning rides) and Reinbow Equestrian Center (afternoon). Sader-Larson is a home grown dressage talent. Prior to moving East to further her training, Alison resided in Lincoln, at what was then Wilderness Stables. In her younger years she represented Region IV at the North American Young Riders Championship. Today she is a professional trainer and clinician working out of her stable in Minnesota, as well as wintering in Florida.

Alison was the first person I ever saw ride a Grand Prix test. I am excited to have an opportunity to participate in a clinic with a woman who left a strong impression on me as a kid.

To all our readers, I hope you are able to get out and enjoy your weekend whether you are competing, volunteering, auditing or just bumming around your barn.

What's Poppin'

Unless you're counting Jamee's wedding, there are no major horse related events goin' down in the area this weekend. Alas, we're left to find our own fun and education at home. I know I'll be busy! How about you?

Most of my weekend will be spent in the Grand Island area celebrating the happy occasion of Jamee's wedding. Of course, that doesn't mean Dobby's is off for the weekend. He's just going to get squished onto the to-do list before and after I leave for GI on Saturday morning.

For those of you who know us, I'm pleased to report that "Tha Dob" is working really well. We're both getting back into fighting condition this spring. He's doing really well, especially in his lateral work. I'm really excited about returning to the show ring with him this summer.

Sadly, we're struggling with his hooves right now, and it doesn't look like they'll be in shape enough to make it to the Shaggy in May. As soon as it arrives, I'll be profiling a topical hoof care product. And believe me, if this stuff works on Dobby, it will help anyone with bad feet.

Happy Easter everyone! I hope all of you readers enjoy a nice weekend with family and friends.

Weekend Wind-Up

In looking at my calendar, I've noticed a distinct horse activity shaped hole in my roster of events. Whatever shall I do?!?

Luckily, I am prepared for just such a weekend! This week has been a week of transition work for Dobby and I, so I believe this will continue into the weekend. We've had excellent transitions from working to extended trot all week long. I'm going to try to achieve the same level of quality in our canter extensions and collections as well.

And like many of you out there, I own a seriously hairy scruffy spring time horse. Work shall continue on trying to remove as much of his mammoth winter coat as possible. Sunday (Dobby's traditional "beauty day") this process will include a mane pull. I'm hoping sometime in the near future a beautiful gelding will emerge from the piles of hair!
